《『新主人』創作背景》

『新主人』 原名為 『新青歌』，本為一間工人夜校的校歌。後來，歌曲創作人楊少雄校長把它改為適合學生，尤其是教友學生唱的歌。在他所服務過的幾間學校的學生都喜歡唱它。他們在舊同學聚會中常說：除了校歌外，最能回憶起的便是這首歌。

由於楊校長的代子林樂言於2024年5月21至27日前往羅馬參加世界兒童節。樂言和十萬人參與教宗主持的彌撒，並與來自各國的兒童交流和參加朝聖及福傳活動。在臨行前，楊校長為 “新主人” 譜上和聲，送給樂言，希望他和其他七位香港代表成為教會和社會的新主人。

為了方便樂言和各國兒童交流時容易分享信仰，交流他的服務及傳教工作，楊校長也把歌詞翻譯為英文。而為配合英文歌詞，亦作了新的旋律及和聲。

《Background of 'Youth - Our Future' 》

The Chinese version of 'Youth--Our Future' was composed by Paul Yeung as the anthem for a night school for workers in Hong Kong. Paul Yeung was the serving principal of that school. Later, he revised the song to make it suitable for students, especially Catholic students, to sing.  This song was well-loved by students of all the schools that he had served.  When his students reminisced about their old school days during their alumni gatherings, they always said this song held a special place in their hearts---it was the song they most fondly remembered besides their school anthem.

In May this year, Paul Yeung's godson, Lucas Lam and seven other local children, were sent by the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong to join the first World Children's Day in Rome (21-27 May, 2024). Lucas Lam was chosen because of his ministry as a child evangelist at St. Jerome's Church. To commemorate this occasion, Paul Yeung translated the lyrics of 'Youth - Our Future' into English and made revisions to the melody and harmony. He hoped this rendition would help Lucas to share his faith and services with children from all over the world. Paul Yeung presented the English version of this song to Lucas before the latter departed for Rome.
